Most people think they need an hour for their workouts.15 to 30 minutes can change your life. One of the biggest reasons people don’t exercise-Have you ever skipped your workout because you didn’t have a full hour? That belief is actually keeping you from getting to be your healthiest, something is better than nothing. Something is better than nothing. A 20 minute workout done three times a week will beat the hour workout that you never actually do. Your body doesn’t own a stopwatch.
Hello. Been. And welcome back to the VC Fitness podcast. We have episode three and I’m so excited for this podcast. I was actually I just finished up with a client who lives in Winter Haven, Florida, and we just finished a one on one zoom session, and I was just talking to her about what we’re going to discuss today, that most people think they need an hour for their workouts, why you don’t need an hour to get healthy, and why 15 to 30 minutes can change your life.
And so that’s one of the misconceptions that I really want to lean into today. One of the biggest reasons people don’t exercise, or they skip their workouts, is because they believe that they need that full one hour. And the truth is, 15 to 30 minutes of a tailored workout done consistently can transform your life. So welcome. I’m Vanessa Carlson here with BC fitness and have you ever done that?
Have you ever skipped your workout because you didn’t have a full hour? What if that belief of needing that full hour is actually keeping you from getting to be your healthiest, or getting to be the strongest, or feeling the best you’ve ever felt? Today I want to challenge that big myth, because not every workout has to be an hour to be effective.
15 to 30 minutes is all you really need. So I hear it from clients all the time. I’m too busy. There’s not enough time. Maybe next week. Maybe when work slows down. Maybe when summer starts and the kids are out of school and the games are over. Or maybe when school starts, I have a better routine. Or after Christmas.
After Thanksgiving, I’ll start the new year. There’s always something, right? But does life ever really slow down? So I think one of the things I want to really hit home today is that if you’re waiting for more free time, you’re going to be really finding yourself waiting for ever. Many people have the mindset of like that all or nothing.
If if I don’t have that, our I’m not going to do anything and or they’re waiting for the perfect time or the perfect conditions, it’s too cold to hot too early. It’s dark. It’s dark now. It’s dark earlier. And that all or nothing mindset is really just becoming nothing, nothing, nothing over time, right? Because they find themselves just like days, weeks, months go by and they haven’t really been working out or exercising.
And so the reality. Another thing I want to hit home today is that something is better than nothing. Something is better than nothing. A 20 minute workout done three times every week beats the hour workout that you never actually do. Let me say that again. A 20 minute workout done three times a week will beat the hour workout that you never actually do.
And I was just talking to my client today in Winter Haven, Florida during our zoom workout today that we were focusing on the quality over the quantity and during the times where she is working out ten 15 minutes during those little breaks, during her workday or even at home, busy mom, career, woman, wife, all the things focusing on that movement, the quality.
And there are times where, you know, you may find yourself okay, you know, have it your non-negotiable. I’m going to do this for 10 to 15 minutes, and most times you’ll find yourself having more time or doing it longer. But again, the quality over the quantity and the consistency 20 minutes, 15 to 30 minutes is more doable. It’s less intimidating.
You’ll have more effort in a shorter amount of time. You’ll have a good movement, not just simply focusing on needing that hour. And so your body doesn’t own a stopwatch, right? It’s not responding to the time. It’s responding more to the work that you’re actually doing. So if you’re waiting for the perfect time and waiting for that hour and you find yourself just waiting, doing nothing, you’re giving your body nothing.
Right. And so, as I mentioned before, when it’s a shorter workout, you’ll find that it’s easier to fit in before work during your lunch break, maybe after putting the kids to bed, you know, because I’m sure you’re tired too. So, you know, having to do a one hour workout when you’re already tired at the end of the day at night is going to be seem like a mountain, whereas if it’s shorter, it’s going to be less intimidating, more doable.
And it’s great where when it’s shorter, you’ll need less recovery time, especially if you’re a beginner. And so it’s going to help you stay and be consistent. And that’s going to help you build that confidence and keep that positive feedback loop going of getting in your workouts, because then you’ll start feeling better and you’re going to want to do it and you’re going to crave it.
And so again, you’re going to be more willing to start. And once you start, you’re going to keep on going. I promise you, I see it all the time and I totally get it. I don’t want to sound like I don’t understand. I have my oldest just turned six, my youngest is four. We just, you know, we have our our work, our business, our errands, our extended family appointments.
Sometimes the world seem is on fire, but fitness has to fit into your real life, not compete with it again. Fitness should fit into your real life, not compete with it. So let’s just do some math. If I’m working out 20 minutes a day, four days a week, that’s me minutes. Now, over a span of a year, that’s about over an hour.
It’s probably about 70 hours of exercise. Those little small investments will add up again, your body doesn’t remember the workout you skipped on the one day. It’s going to remember what you consistently did all time, months and years. And that compound effect is just going to keep adding up, adding up. As I mentioned to you before, there’s a book written about it and it’s going to help you for who you are now, right at your current age, your current season of life, whatever that is.
I work with people who are just starting their careers. I work with people who are just became parents or who are business owners or who are in the sandwich. You know, they’re taking care of their their parents, taking care of their kids, their caregivers. They’re retired. So whatever season of life, it’s going to help you now, but then it’s also going to help your future self for the next decade, which is amazing.
So again, invest in yourself a little bit at a time. And so instead of asking, you know, when do I have a full hour, maybe you could be asking, where can I fit or find where can I find 20 minutes in my day for something that is going to be specific and tailored to my needs, focusing on strength or whatever it is that you need?
And again, it could be before work. It could be the lunch break, it could be while kids are napping after dinner, or maybe before you watch your favorite show. Okay, I’m going to spend 20 minutes put your timer on and investing in my health with good quality movement. So stop waiting for the perfect conditions. Stop waiting for more time, okay?
And believing shorter workouts don’t matter because they do. And I want to share one quick story. I’m working with someone online. We do one on one zoom workouts, and I am giving her tailored workouts to do on her own. She’s a young professional, just went through a life change. She works at the bank. She lives kind of in a secluded area in northern Maine.
Beautiful area. Has a background in horseback riding, but during our initial council, we were figuring out what’s going to be doable, right? And what’s going to be fun because if you’re not having fun, you’re not going to do it. And if you don’t do it, you’re not going to be consistent. You’re not gonna put your confidence. So she said, you know, 30 minutes, no more than 30 minutes, five days a week was her goal.
And she has been hitting that, doing it feeling great. And less than six weeks you can already see her face is vibrant. Her energy is through the roof. She’s taking longer walks at work. She’s enjoying life again. She feels stronger, she feels motivated and she again. The most important thing for me, for my clients, is that you feel confident in what you’re doing, understanding why you’re doing it.
Because you’ll keep going. And again, all her workouts 30 minutes, five days a week. And if she misses one, that’s okay. We just keep going. Wash rinse repeat. So your future is not built by one amazing workout, right? It’s actually built upon hundreds of just ordinary ones. I hope that blesses you. I hope that encourages you and kick that one hour mindset out the door.
And let’s get in 15 to 30 minutes of workouts for you and your body that you can do, you know, before work, after work, lunch break, during the nap, right before bed, before your favorite show. And one thing that you can do right now is schedule it. Put it on your calendar right now. Don’t wait till tomorrow. Today, let’s plan it just like you’re making another appointment to get your hair done.
Your nails done to see the doctor, a follow up, a checkup, your car, whatever you have tons of appointments that you make for those you love or for the things that you have. Let’s make an appointment for you because you are so valuable. All right. And so make sure to check in next time for episode four, where we’re going to be tackling one of the most frustrating topics in fitness weight loss.
And we’re going to separate myths from facts and just talk about what’s keeping many women or not just women, but many people stuck. I love you all. God bless. Ciao for now.
Vanessa Carlson, and I am the owner of Vanessa Carlson Fitness. I am Raider Carlson and I am the general manager. At VC fitness our first goal is our fun first approach with all of our clients. Working out should not feel like a punishment at all, and we strive to make it the highlight of their day. The workouts are tailored.
I love using my background as a doctor, physical therapy to make sure that we’re meeting our clients where they’re at, to help them to get to where they want to be. And I think the third thing is the accountability and communication. So not only do we have one on one sessions with our clients in person and via zoom, but with the app, we are communicating with our clients almost on a daily basis so that they feel confident.
Those companies don’t have a doctor of physical therapy on staff. And so obviously Vanessa is a doctor of physical therapy and highly sought out around the country. And that brings me to my next point that we are the highest rated, the most reviewed personal training company in Portland, Maine, where our headquarters are located. However, we train virtually nationwide through zoom, through live zoom sessions, and so it doesn’t matter where you live.
You can work with Vanessa. And then the third thing is our very first session with Vanessa is only a dollar. We call it the region rise assessments, where basically it’s a meet and greet where she looks at your body using her Doctor of physical therapy skills to make sure that you’re getting the most out of your session and make sure that it’s a good fit for you.
I mean, obviously, we know that we can work with anybody, but obviously it’s got to be a good fit for you. So when I was a child, my grandmother had breast cancer and I was very close with her and was with her for a lot of her appointments with chemo, radiation, all the things and kind of seeing how that affected her.
And I just knew early on I wanted to do something to help people with their health. I didn’t really know what that was going to look like. Fast forward as a child, I remember getting my first Barbie workout video working out with Dance Barbie, and that just was a core memory for me. It closed the door, worked out, felt great, and then fast forward some more.
I knew that I wanted to do something in the health and medical field, and had really great mentors and teachers that helped direct me where I knew I wanted to have a gym one day. I didn’t know how I was going to look, and we had our opportunity. As I was a physical therapist to open our first gym, I just went for it and just really wanted to help people learn how to take care of their bodies.
I just knew that fitness was my passion. And just over the years, it just all worked out together. And here we are. The rest is history. So here’s the thing you don’t have to figure this on your own. And I totally understand how exercise can be overwhelming. We all know that we need to eat healthy and exercise and work out on carve time for it, and don’t feel like you have to know it all.
Do it all by yourself. And even if you’re feeling unmotivated, know that you’re not alone. So my my message to you is surround yourself with someone who is motivated. For someone that is passionate about exercise and eating well and building a positive habits, good healthy habits. I don’t know how to paint, but if I want to make a canvas painting, I’m going to go to a place that the person is a great teacher and passionate about it.
And I’m going to come out with a beautiful painting. Same thing with this. Take the shame. Take the pressure off of your shoulders. You’re not alone in this. Many people I work with all the time don’t know where to start, and I am honored to come alongside and help you figure it out. And just start building that momentum and get in your stride.
And I promise you, you won’t regret it. So anything that we’re saying resonates with you. Don’t wait. Just call the number. Or you can put your information on our website and someone will get. Get back in touch with you very, very quickly. I mean, you got to do it so fast and you don’t know what you’re doing because your mind, which I get in the.
So don’t let them get in the way. Only it’s only $1 to try, Vanessa. And it might be the most impactful hour in 15 minutes of your life. Here at VC fitness for your first consultation, it’s only $1. The assessment is going to just go over some things that are on your heart. Give me a good idea of your body awareness, your mechanics and see if we are a good fit and it only costs $1.
