For as long as I can remember, I’ve been excited about exercising and bringing others along through exercises that were perfect for them and now I can do so as a top Personal Training Portland ME. From doing Barbie workout videos in my Bronx apartment to hosting fitness dance parties to giving pilates and core classes at the local gym, to graduating from Massage School and receiving my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. This has been my life’s work and passion.

Lessons from Our First Gym

That led to 2014 opening our first gym when I was working as a Physical Therapist at BMW in South Carolina. The kickboxing franchise led me to understand, as our first business, the hard work and dedication it takes to not only grow a business but to turn around a failing business. After two-and-a-half years growing it and becoming the eleventh best gym in that franchise model in 2015, a certain national gym with the purple and yellow logo moved in right across the street from us. We “got down on our knees” and were rescued by an investor who got us lawyers to get out of our franchise agreement and moved us to Ohio in 2016.

Creating a Personalized Training Approach

That gym taught me how to work slowly with normal everyday women who had no idea how their bodies moved in space and that’s where we came up with the streamlined personal training concept for women of all ages.

Overcoming Challenges and Expanding Online

In September 2019, our first gym successful, we opened up a second location in which it really took off, until the unnamed global pandemic hit in early 2020.  My husband was forced to take a slew of different jobs while I started our first online company, since everyone was staying home, Hey Fit Mom. It was based on pregnancy workouts since I was pregnant myself. Fast forward five years, we got our workouts on a couple of different networks and have a growing YouTube channel and figured it was time to take our service offering “Workout with Vanessa” to the women who don’t know how to find us on YouTube. This is by far the most fun we have ever had because we get to help Make America Healthy Again. We absolutely love giving everything we have towards classy women’s fitness.

Our Passion | A Fun-First Approach™ to Fitness

We excel at women’s workouts using our Fun-First Approach™. At the gym, most women who came in didn’t know how to start in a workout program and most women cried when we were going over their health assessments, not because they were too unhealthy, but because they actually found a friend that cared. Most women don’t know what to do when they go to a gym and are too intimidated and confused. This leads to wasted time, energy, and more grief. What happens when they walk into a “normal” gym, is they get a bunch of high pressure ear candy from the salesman and then they are told they can get some personal training sessions with “Rick” who is a gray-headed Master Trainer (the gray head is the only certification Rick has). After she agrees, she walks in timidly, pays $700 for 10 workout sessions. Rick starts out by absolutely putting her through a 30 minute hell session only. She is so sore that she never comes back. Women don’t like to be destroyed (many of them don’t), but you only see women powerlifters or bodybuilders in the mainstream gyms since these gyms are primarily “dude” gyms. The actual everyday women are not in them for fear of getting destroyed! We love working out with the everyday mom, the board CEO, the janitor, the weekend warrior, the excessive traveler, the franchisee, the author, the artist, the entrepreneur, the striving workaholic…You get the picture.
